Xenia Gray Explorations of Stillness, Presence, and Quiet Connection Xenia Gray is a contemporary figurative artist whose paintings explore stillness, presence, and the quiet connection between people. Rooted in meditation and mindfulness, her work invites the viewer to slow down, breathe deeply, and notice the space between thoughts. Her pieces live beautifully in a yoga space, offering a moment of reflection before or after practice. Through subtle gesture and intentional use of space, her paintings create an atmosphere of calm awareness and quiet introspection. Artist Statement My work exists in the space between solitude and interconnectedness, shaped by both my upbringing in post-Soviet Siberia and my ongoing artistic journey. Growing up in an environment marked by vast emptiness and unspoken emotions, I became attuned to silence, both around me and within. This sensibility translates into my paintings, where empty space and ambiguity invite contemplation. In my creative process, I explore the unseen forces that connect us to one another, to our origins, and to something far greater than ourselves. My art is a search for the Self, a bridge between personal history and the infinite, between isolation and unity. Biography Xenia Gray is a contemporary figurative artist working primarily in mixed media, including oil and acrylic. Fascinated by unexpressed feelings and what remains unsaid, she explores emotion through paintings of the human body. She grew up in Siberia in the aftermath of the Soviet Union’s collapse, where the industrial landscape of her hometown deeply influenced her sense of color and aesthetic sensitivity. Xenia began formal art training at the age of nine and continued her studies in Saint Petersburg, earning a Master’s degree in Advertisement Design from Saint Petersburg State University of Technology and Design. She moved to the United States in 2010. “Art is a channel for me, through which I can express my emotions, be seen, and understood by an observer.” |
